Five sites, one way around them

FAS.org runs on WordPress. Heat Agenda and the Center for Regulatory Ingenuity are hand-built static sites, and Essential Data runs on its own server. One small component gives them all the same way around.

The FAS sites bar

The thin bar at the very top of this page. It is kept once, on FAS.org, and every site loads it with one line, whatever it's built with. FAS edits the list of sites in one place and every site updates.

<script type="module" src="https://fas.org/network/bar.js"></script>
<fas-network-bar current="heat"></fas-network-bar>

Proposed, not live. Each site keeps its own design below the bar.

New microsites

Built in WordPress from a template: their own name, an accent from FAS's palette, a short menu, the sites bar on top, and FAS publications pulled in by topic, so a microsite's reading list updates when FAS publishes.

The five sites

  • FAS.orgWordPressLoads the FAS sites bar
  • Heat AgendaStatic siteLoads the FAS sites bar
  • Center for Regulatory IngenuityStatic siteLoads the FAS sites bar
  • Essential DataStatic site, own serverLoads the FAS sites bar
  • Future of ScienceWordPress micrositeLoads the FAS sites bar

Design note. RFP item C. We'd confirm in discovery who builds and deploys the static sites today, and whether new microsites should be WordPress (our recommendation) or static. The sites bar works the same either way.
